Larry, There is an after market rubber lip seal that replaces the rope type.
I used it when my 57 Imp. motor was rebuilt. I don't know the success
installing with the crank in.

  Dearly Beloveds......have a 57 392, overhauled a few years ago but not
2000 miles driven. A small but constant leak from the rear of the pan, down
the front of the bell housing and drip, drip to the floor. Looking straight
up to it shows a rope like gasket that is wet all the time. Is this fixable
by dropping the pan, replacing gaskets? or can there be an issue about rear
main seal?
