Re: [Chrysler300] Strange Steering Problem

Hi Mike, I resolved problem (I hope) In the process of disassembling the steering, when I got the wheel, horn ring, & turn signal switch off, I found the snap ring on the steering shaft had come out of its groove. Re-seating it back in groove removed all the play. Warren Anderson suggested thats where the problem was and he was right on. Thanks Warren. I did not take the lower coupler apart since steering action was OK both before & after play was removed.

Anyone know what's wrong here? Car: 300K Cvt with power steering. If I pull straight back on my steering wheel, I have about 3/4 inch free play, as though the wheel was going to come off in my hand. The nut holding the wheel on is tight, and the entire steering shaft moves with the wheel. Steering action is fine. My concern is where is this play coming from? The shop manual shows a complicated connector between the steering shaft and the power steering gearbox. Could this connection come loose leaving me with NO steering?
This is standard power steer-not adjustable (tilt) wheel. Any help greatly appreciated.
