this fuel pump rod must always be changed  when rebuilding the engine/installing a new cam . if you dont, the old rod will wipe out the lobe on the cam that the rod rides on .. it never wears on the pump end just on the lobe of the cam. i have seen the lobe on the cam gone!!!!!!!bob hayen
