RE: [Chrysler300] Fw: A466 Torqueflite gearshift cable adjustment

If your car has sat outside for extended lengths of time during its past,
chances are you/she/it probably have/had mice nests
On top of the G/S cable box in which case the mouse pee has rusted stuff in
there and may be causing binding.
I'd suggest taking a close look at that area and lube accordingly to make
dead nuts sure THAT is not a problem. You need smooth as silk
Operations on these slides to enable them to"snap" into place when the
buttons are pushed

Just my 2 cents worth
Good luck!

I would think at this point you'd be better off having Jeff exlain to YOU
how to adjust it, and maybe enlist the help of a friend. I think anything
else will lead to more grief, My 2 cents anyway, Mike Moore 300H On Jun 29,

Subject: A466 Torqueflite gearshift cable adjustment

Hello to all in 300sville!

Guess what??? My transmission is STILL a problem!! To make a long story
short, after driving my G for after 30 to 50 or so minutes, the trans will
go from a 3 to 1 kickdown instead of 3 to 2 at almost 45 mph!! Still the
same problem for almost 2 years now!! Sometimes it will almost be at 50 when
it does a 3 to 1! Now Jeff Carter (seems like I idolize him but I do),
suggested the FIRST thing I look at, is the gearshift cable adjustment. I
explained to Jeff that the 'head honcho', or owner of the tranny shop (where
I fortunately have a lifetime warranty on trans) told me that I could NOT go
from Reverse, straight to Nuetral, but I would have to go from Reverse, to
Drive, then to Nuetral....... and I can't except only for a couple of times.
Jeff basically told me heck NO! I suggested that it might be the slides
behind the pushbuttons but he stated he's never had a problem with the
slides. I also let him know that the tranny shop said 'that's how they
are when they get old', (or something close to that). Again, JC told me no.
The adjustment could be off and that could be my problem because too much or
too little fluid is applying what there should be. I am going to either tow
or drive it back to the 'tranny shop' next Wednsday and have him see if it
is the gearshift cable. When I suggested to the owner of the shop that it
could be the gearshift cable, he stated "I've been doing this for 50 years,
I know how to adjust a gearshift cable". Just what I need at a time like
this!!! His ego getting in the way. I need an open mind at this point. This
is about the 2nd or 3rd time that this particular transmission has been
rebuilt! The last time they tore it apart, at leaste they told be that the
bands and clutches were still okay. Now it was brought to my attention by
Jeff, a geat knowledgeable member of our club, that it takes two people to
adjust the cable. One person up in the car pushing in the
button(s) while another person down below adjusts it. When I asked the the
local owner (who helped adjust the cable himself), he said "we got it as
close as we could". Yikes, it makes me wonder!! Now to wrap this up here's
the deal: I'm going to have to have Jeff on the phone with Greg (the owner)
come Wednsday, and have JC explain to Greg about doing it but how the heck
is that going to happen when Greg will probably take offense to this! What
do I do! I need to rule out this possibility and if that's not it, go to the
next thing. Any suggestions out there as of what to say to Greg? I hope he
has an open mind because Melissa (my G), needs to be fixed!!
By the way, Jeff is doing fine and staying with the neighbors in as good of
spirits as possible until his house is refurbished enough to move back in
(because of the smoke damage that the fire caused). Well, I'll all keep ypu
updated! Bye for now!

Sincerely & 300ly, Brandt H J with a G
