I went to the gym with a friend yesterday at 5 p.m. Drat! They closed early 
for the Fourth.

While re-grouping in the parking lot outside, my eyes drifted to the parking 
lot of the Starbucks across the street. Eureka! Could it be? The long, lithe 
tailfins of a Forward Look Chrysler. Come! We have to go investigate NOW, I 
exclaimed.

We slobbered over the car on the way inside. Turned out to be a New Yorker 
with a gorgeous body & very spiffy interior. Windows down, books inside, no 
driver in sight. Into the Starbucks we trotted to screen the inhabitants. It 
didn't take long to make the owner. He was the only one who didn't look like 
a teeny-bopper college student pounding away on an Apple laptop. He was 
actually reading a legacy volume. I think they used to call them books.

Under intense good cop/bad cop interrogation, he cracked almost immediately, 
confessing to being one Bill Green, Virginia Tech professor of architecture, 
and claiming the New Yorker as a daily driver that he personally wheeled 
from California when he moved to our blessed paradise a few years back. No 
wonder it had such an awesome body. He shared other details I'll leave 
immediately confidential, but will relate that his eyes lit up when I 
informed him about our impending meet on the nearby Mountain, of which I am 
the giddy host. He promised to come hang out with the gang. He's not a 300 
owner, but I assured him that he'd be more than welcome if he left the 195x 
Rolls (or was it a Bentley?) at home and piloted his more magnificent Yankee 
motorcar up the local twisties to the Lake. He also expressed a secret 
desire to lay his hands on a 300 of his own, so if there are any wanna-be 
divorcées, then you might use his attached email address to pound him with 
well-prepared 300 sales spam. Or twist his arm into joining the club.

Oh, and if you've been contemplating coming to the Fall Meet August 21-24 
and haven't yet signed up, be aware that today is the last day we're 
guaranteed rooms in our block. We've had a gratifying turnout for 
registration so far, but I don't think we've yet pegged the meter for our 
block. But after today they're fair game for anybody else to reserve. I'm 
pretty sure the hotel will still honor our rate for late-registering 
attendees, but that's not guaranteed. Don't delay! Summer's wasting away & 
you don't want to miss this one...
