There is absolutely NO VACUUM connection to the Torqueflite automatic.

The problem you are describing is somewhere in the engine.  All the transmission is doing is putting a drag on the engine, making the engine malfunction more visible than when its just idling in neutral.

You could have vacuum leaks in the PCV hose, power brake booster, the spark advance canister, at the carburetor gasket, or at the intake manifold gasket.  Check and correct as needed.
If you have the original dual point distributor, check to make sure the points are adjusted correctely, 27-32 degrees dwell on each set with the other set isolated, AND 34-40 degrees with both sets operating.  A simple trick I use to isolate point sets is to place a thin piece of plastic between the point contacts on the set I want to isolate.
Make sure the timing is correct.
Make sure the idle mixture is adjusted properly.

Hi,
Is there any engine vacuum connection( vacuum modulator e.g.) to the auto transmission in a 1964 300k? Reason for asking is that my 300 runs, idles fine until I put in gear then is runs like crap, vacuum drops5 to 7 points. And it stay that way even while driving on the road. Any insight out there?
