[Chrysler300] G Evaporator Assembly removal

When I bought the car the hoses to the heater core and temp control valve were disconnected so I factored in their replacement/rebuild. The factory a/c system seemed intact as far as the parts all being there but it looked like it hadn’t worked since the Carter administration.

So removal of the heater core went smoothly (as anticipated it had a leak but is rebuildable). Following the procedure in the service manual, removal of the evaporator assembly was tedious but went smoothly until I slid the assembly forward. Before it was able to clear the “dash panel” and be lifted out, the forward movement of the housing was blocked by the LHS ram intake manifold. It needs less than ½ inch forward movement to clear. I tried several different angles/cants to see if it pivoted out but no luck.

Before I start down the wrong path does anyone know how this is solved? Is there some angle answer? The service manual speaks of taking it out as a unit but do I drill out the rivets and separate the evaporator from the housing to remove it? Do I have to start loosening the intake manifold until it clears? Thanks in advance!
