RE: [Chrysler300] Sick C300 & Bent B

Could be the coil breaking down....

I had similar symptoms with my '78 Australian Chrysler with its 265 hemi.
It has Chrysler electronic ignition. The resin in the control box was
breaking down and leaking out making a sticky mess. At a Chrysler Car Show
a guy was selling new replacements cheap and I bought one to fix that
problem. A little later on I found the engine wouldn't rev past 4000 rpm,
coughing and carrying on. After a bit of head scratching and googling, I
put my old control box back on and everything was fine. Seems there are
cheap control boxes out there built in another country I won't mention that
aren't up to the task.

Anyway, the problem was spark firing and assuming you still have points, it
could be the coil. Worth trying another one or checking the voltage at the
positive terminal.

Best of luck.

My erstwhile mechanic is pulling out his few remaining hairs trying to
resolve a major operating problem with our 1955 C-300, having about 86K
miles w/o engine work. After years of good operation, we find it will not
wind up over about 3500-4000 RPM without coughing, backfiring and spitting.
All fuel and ignition elements have been gone through several times. The
car starts easily and runs fine up to that point then, about when the
velocity secondaries open up, it just goes ape. It seems to be an RPM issue
and it happens even with the car running only on the secondaries and even
with them blocked open. They are down to investigating mechanical issues
with a worn timing chain suspect. The distributor was run up to eight grand
on a Sun machine and performed perfectly, including mechanical and vacuum
advance. The carbs' passages are squeaky clean. Fuel pressure at the carbs
is 5 psi+. The problem even exists with the car at rest and in neutral.

Anyone have an idea where else we might look?

Friend and dual club member Bob Panella (Sacramento area) is looking for a
RH p/w door for a '56 300B and a left rear quarter panel for same. Anyone
having a spare of either or knowledge of a salvage yard possibly having
either piece, please let me or Bob bobsr@xxxxxxxxxxx
<mailto:bobsr@xxxxxxxxxxx> know. I believe all he needs is the sheet metal
parts of the door as his existing door was damaged while in restoration.
Glass, window hardware, vent window & trim should be OK. Sad story, but
true. We're wondering which doors might interchange between '55 &
'56 NY, Windsor, 300, De Soto & Imp. Any insights? It's a given that some
trim mounting holes might have to be relocated and I know the door handles
are different between '55 & '56 but I'm not aware of whether the locking
mechanism and mounting holes are the same across the board. The convertible
doors might also interchange. We're presuming the quarter panel must come
from a '56 Chrysler Windsor, New Yorker or 300-perhaps coupe or convertible?

All assistance gratefully acknowledged and appreciated,

C-150'ly,

Rich Barber
