Re: [Chrysler300] RETORQUE HEAD GASKETS?

I would love to see you take the exhaust manifolds off and torque the heads on a big block in 15 minutes. Some of the bolts are under the manifolds. You will also have to take the rocker shafts off to get at the others. Fel-Pro gaskets do not require re-torque. I’ve done enough of these and have never blown a head gasket on a big block. There are 17 head bolts on a big block and 10 on a small block. Torqueing them in three steps is plenty.

I like to re-torque heads, HOT. Drive enough to get up to operating temps and then re-torque.
I couldn't get this through to me son and after 2 blown head gaskets (while dragging) he learned.
He got to where he could do it in 15 minutes on his 340 'cuda.
I only did this to engines that were used in abusive ways such as racing or long high speed runs.

Is it a good idea to re-torque cylinder head gaskets on a fresh 413 after a short trip of 15 miles?

The original torque sequence was in 3 complete stages.  No leaks during garage activity for cam break in.

Visible fresh oil leaks now (small) at lower rear of both head gaskets, no over heat issues.

This motor is smooth and accelerates well.

Thanks,
