Re: [Chrysler300]

As a farmer, I was shocked and offended at the recent misinformation in the ethanol thread.
Such comments as subsidy doesn't cover increase in consumption farmers will squeel? For one thing, there hasn't been a usable tractor produced in 40 years that is big enough to run on gasoline. Gas tractors were around 80 horsepower and no where near big enough to be used around here in the last 30 years for crop production. We do use blended gas in small engines that pump fertilizer and have learned you can't leave it sitting around. It will go bad. As far as the comment on ethanol and racing gas, the last I used had methanol not ethanol and it is very bad on gaskets and other parts. Also mentioned was the special corn used to make ethanol. There is no special corn.
A subsidy was mentioned and the only one I am familiar with is the blender credit. The blended fuel is NOT blended at the station pump as mentioned. I see Marathon oil trucks picking up straight ethanol at the plant I sell my corn at. They take it back to Marathon and blend it at the plant. So think about who is getting the blenders credit... The oil company. There is talk of ethanol being imported from South America, where its been made for almost 40 years from sugar cane. Ethanol there is used as a sustainable fuel to replace oil and has been very successful.

Short and finally sweet!  Ethanol blends along with racing fuel caused deposits to build up in my carburetor jets and ate into 2 of my brass floats in the front carb on my C.  One month evolution of carb rebuilding and replacing the 2 floats and final adjustment has my C running better than I ever have experienced in 12 years of ownership.  I only now burn ethanol-free 91 octane and will stay away from
anything else. Idle set at 750 and is smooth with A/C compressor engaged or off.  Shuts down when engine warm with no run on.  I’m happy! 300’ly, Rob KernFrom: mailto:Chrysler300-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Terry and All:
Knock on wood----I have not had the ethanol trouble---at least not yet!  A couple weeks ago I started up my 300F for the first time in over a year (ashamed of that!) and took it for a fairly exuberant drive.  It started very well with a little gasoline poured in each carb, and ran just fine.  I will say that one of my stops on that little excursion was a fill up with NON-ethanol fuel at the local Marathon station.  At least I feel better now!

I just read in Autoweek mag Jay Leno's essay on the evils of ethanol.  In my 300F I have been running a mix of 100+ octane leaded aviation gas and pump premium spiked with the normal amount of ethanol.  Has anybody in the Club experienced any problems with today's ethanol-infused gas?  Jay talks about rubber parts (in fuel pumps, for example) being eaten up and ensuing engine fires.  Terry McTaggart
