RE: [Chrysler300] Ram Manifold Choke Thermostat's

A few months ago I asked the same question. Upon disassembly of a G I found one of the thermostats was the original, the other was from a late ’70 ‘s Mopar that had been chopped along with its improper cup that did not fit the manifold properly. My inquiry was answered on this site with information that Mr. Reihl had done reproductions but any repro parts or prints were of locations unknown.

I looked around for originals, but no luck. For substitutes I looked around. (Lots of hours but I can pretend to be listening to my wife while surfing the web). Plenty of late fifties, early sixties Carter thermostats have a similar look, fit in the pot, and have varying length rods. On e-bay there are many similar NOS of Carter thermostats for this era but none appear to be the correct part number and run about $200. Bendix thermostats have a base with a larger hump. I eventually settled on a Bendix Stromberg 46 which I understand was used on late ‘50’s, early ‘60’s Mopar carbs for small displacement engines. Similar Bendix thermostats are around for larger displacement Mopars of the same era. This thermostat looks similar, has the same plate outline, fits the pot the same, and has approximately the same length rod as the original. I mounted both to a fixture and held them over heat. Despite the Bendix having less coils both opened at about the same rate. This shouldn’t be a problem depending on your theory of whether the thermostat allows the choke to open or pulls the choke open. Given I just did this last week I haven’t finished assembly yet. For $30 for the used yet near pristine part it seems like a functional solution for now if the chokes don’t open at a significantly different rate.

This being said, if repros are found, I would be interested.

i seem to recall a club member used to have actual choke assemblies (reproduction?) available in the club news? Maybe try club website classified section?

Bob,

A year or two ago, I purchased the gaskets for the choke pots from you, and the choke wells for the Ram from a "French" named fellow in Canada (or so I recall?). Anyway, my question to all, are the "Chokes" that are required for the Ram manifolds still available? If so where? and what part number? Is there a unit that will work? Maybe from a different year? Can anyone help? Or at least suggest a solution, or substitute unit. Thanks to all in advance.
