Re: RE: [Chrysler300] Tach cable for an F

For the speedometer HEAD there is a place to oil it. It can be done while in the car.  I had a head that was stuck fast and caused my new cable to break.
I kept putting a drop on, let it soak in. Another drop, let it soak in. I'd try spinning it with a broken cable end, didn't spin so i added more drops .
When it finally got free I put the broken cable end in a cordless drill and ran it for a while. Added a bit more oil and that was about 8 years ago. Again this was done without removing the speedometer from the car.
It's probably time to add another drop on the head.

The lubriplate I was referring to is the engine assly lube, very runny.
I'll try and lube the head, anything is better than yanking it out!
Darn thing has always hung up at about 60 mph then you have to get up to
about 75-80 before it will jump up then does the same thing on the way down
to 60.
But of course, I never get it up to those speeds, yeah....right!!

I have always used a dry lube specifically for speedo cables etc. on all of
my Mopars.

I have several that I inherited from my dad. He always said grease and oil
isn't the best over time and attracts dirt and hardens.

Lubriplate sells a dry (white graphite?) as do others.

Good morning 300ites,

Going to install my tach cable for my F.

Has not been in the car since 1973 and needs lubed.

Any tips as to what to use and how to clean the inside of the housing,

Thanks in advance for your help.
