You may want to check your rear license plate light also. Had an issue with mine this past summer that I finally resolved.

Please note that the bulb sockets need to be grounded, which is supposed to happen when the light assemblies are screwed/bolted to the body. The new paint could be preventing grounding. There are no separate ground wires to each bulb or light assembly.

      I went out to the body shop myself this morning to check the F.  I found that the turn signal lever DOES lock in either direction, but there are no front or rear turn signal lights working.  The back-up lights also do not work and the right rear brake light is not working.  I left a new stop light switch off and the fuse is also going to be checked.  Then the flasher will be checked, if necessary.  I am guessing that the wiring disconnection when the rear bumper and tail light assemblies were removed before the painting and the reconnection may be playing a role. Well....no lock and no light means...no power....somewhere.

 

I always say, start with the simple and work towards the complex.

 

Make sure the battery is fully charged and connected

Make sure the ignition key is in the ON position

Make sure the fuse for the circuit is good and power is coming into the fuse box

Verify flasher integrity by pulling the flasher, testing for hot voltage, and installing a jumper to see if this will make the bulbs light up steady.

 

This is where you start.  I know that some of these things should be obvious, but you would be surprised how many times I have seen people lose sight of the "forest" because there were "trees" in the way, if you get my drift.  I would also question the integrity of the mechanic.  I don't know your mechanic from Adam so this isn't a personal attack, but I have seen some mechanics who either don't have a clue about certain things, especially with cars of this vintage, or unscrupulously create other problems to pad their bank account.  The latter is the reason I try to work on my own car as much as I can myself.

 

Anyway, my "two cents" for what it's worth.

With all due respect, I think you need to further define what you mean by "not working".  I can envision several failure modes.  For example:

 

The turn signal lever locks in both positions, but the nothing lights up

The turn signal lever locks in both positions, but the lights stay on steady (no blinking)

The turn signal lever does not lock in either direction (you have to hold the lever) and nothing lights up

The turn signal lever does not lock in either direction (you have to hold the lever) and the lights stay on steady (no blinking)

The turn signal lever does not lock in either direction, and the lights blink

 

So please, pick one of the above or tell us what your car is doing in detail.

 

One more thing to remember.  Since the turn signal lever is mounted under the transmission buttons and NOT on the steering column, your mechanics might not know just where the turn signal switch is or how it functions.  Just sayin'....

Hello Group,

     The rehabilitation of my 300 F is nearly complete; however, I spoke with the repair shop this morning to learn that the turn signals have stopped working.  I can't see how the roof, hood and fender damage could affect them.  I was told that the repair manual offers little advice regarding a solution to this problem, so I'm asking Club members for suggestions.  They were working when I left the car off several months ago.  Thanks in advance for your help.
