First:  1955 C-300.  It needed at least the first 130 MPH range.

The last letter car:  1963 300J.  It may have needed the first 145 MPH
range.

High-speed speedometers became non PC in 1964 and gradually fell back to 85
MPH.  Supercars now go to and past 200 MPH. 

 

Attached or imbedded are pictures of my former '55 CV-300 dash, the 180 MPH
speedometer in a 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT-8 and the 200 MPH speedometer of the
Dodge hellcat.  +30 MPH in 57 years is only 20% and NBD. (Interested parties
may request the e-mail with the pix.

 

Friends, Roman (Red car driver)s and countrymen: Lend me your ears.  Don't
be exploring the upper end of your speedo without nerves of steel, reflexes
of a jet pilot, a strong right leg for braking and T (118), U (124), H
(130), V (149), W (168) or Y (186) rated tires.  And a good lawyer unless
you are on a closed course.  Then, you should have all but the lawyer.

 

Would be interesting to hear from those that may have documented actual top
speeds of street-stock 300's.

 

I never ran our C-300 much over 90 due to ancient tires and even more
ancient driver.  But there was plenty left.

1964 300K Ram-inducted convertible with 120 MPH speedometer and a
"Performance Gauge".  I'll never know.  '64 Chrysler Newport police cars
very well may have come with the 150 MPH speedometer-calibrated to axle &
tire.

think it was the 300C).  What was the last to have it?
