RE: [Chrysler300] Vin stamp location, 59 300E

Those are definitely factory.  The cowl tags are screwed on and the VIN tags are spot welded—at least originally.  If knocked off in restoration (or on purpose, they may be pop-riveted or screwed to the door jamb.  I have seen the CA DMV checklist for identifying a car being registered and it includes the question something like this:” Is the VIN tag affixed to the dashboard with special six-sided rivets?  Yes or No.  The inspector checked No and just went on—seemingly aware that older cars did not have this feature.  I’d suggest asking for a supervisor as the lower-level inspectors may not be allowed to make decisions like that.

Best wishes,

Do these look factory installed?  The DMV is saying these should have been riveted

On my F, the VIN is stamped behind the heater box on the firewall and on the flashing beneath and in front of the rear bumper, in an area below the license plate.  The latter one may be difficult to see as on my car, the imprints were barely visible but nevertheless there.  This location will not require you to remove anything but the one behind the heater box would require removing the heater box, not an easy job.

Good luck.

Dealing with local DMV inspector issues.  I need to find the VIN stamped somewhere else on the car besides the door.  Any idea where that might be on a 59E?  Having to do the same thing on a 59 dodge as well.  My local DMV drives me nuts.
