Hi all - members in western Canada can obtain a similar high ZDDP (1,600 ppm if I recall correctly) oil called CAM Oil.

Blended under contract to CAMOils by Boss Lubricants in Calgary, it's 10-30 with the zinc centrifuged in. Two retired military vets started the CAM Oil business about ten years ago for local hobbyists, and have been gradually expanding their dealer network. Technical information is on their website. (I have no beneficial connection to their business, have just used it for years with good results.)

Keith is right on the Hemmings oil. It is manufactured by a company (whose name I've forgotten) and the sell the same oil under there own label (the price is the same as Hemmings Oil.) Another option is "Cam-Shield", made by the Cam Shield Co. in Randolph, NJ. I bought a case of twelve 1.5 oz. ZDDP "shots" of Cam Shield and added one "shot" to the regular Valvoline oil I bought for my '56 Golden Hawk. Club member Dominic Rinaldi recently did a rear main seal on my '65 Coronet (worked 440 ci w/ solid roller lifters, et al) and he added a shot of Cam Shield to racing oil (which does have some ZDDP but the percentage is unclear)  in the Dodge, which has a big duration cam, high valve spring pressure - all requiring ZDDP.

In any case, make sure you are putting ZDDP ‎in your "K".

We had quite an extensive discussion on this forum a year or two ago, and you might be able to dig that up for a complete rendition. Basically synthetics are going to rate higher than non-syns in every category of performance, but in addition what's critical is to make sure sure you are getting an oil that is high in "ZDDP". That's the protective zinc additive needed to protect the valve train of any flat-tappet engine. This is not a good choice for later cars that have catalytic converters, however, as the zinc will wreck it by "poisoning" the catalyst - coating it so it no longer works.

There are many brands to choose from, and we may have our personal favorites, but Royal Purple is one brand with high ZDDP, and Hemmings also offers a good ZDDP oil.
