Re: [Chrysler300] 57 or 58 Plymouth Fury

Hello Sam,

I have one. It is a project but not very
rusty, It came out of Tennessee so is a southern car.
You should know it does not have a stock drive
train. It was converted to having a 392 Hemi
and 3 speed manual transmission back in the
day. It was run by some local boys at
Bristol Speedway. Other than the drivetrain it appears to be stock.
The 392 turns and came out of a '57 Imperial.
My late husband always said that the manual
transmission was from some sort of older
Packard. He said this was a common conversion back in the day as he had a '56
300B with that type of conversion when he was young in the late Fifties.
From what we were told the car was parked when
the people racing it lost interest.
It's drivetrain was supposed to be functional when it was parked.
Probably never managed to get that Imperial motor to turn high enough RPMs
to blow up.

This type of conversion was supposed to be quite
common in the early sixties when both
Used Furys and used hemis were inexpensive so the average guy could build a
nice low cost racer from them, These conversions were even done as projects by
car magazines.as in this example here
http://www.hotrod.com/articles/42618-1957-plymouth-savoy/
which was a few years earlier and I am sure inspired the readers.

I have looked and cannot find another conversion
like this in the USA that still exists.
On the Internet I found a car that was originally
in the UK but was sold into Greece
if I remember correctly. I think most had the
drive train removed and were pushed out into
a field to rust or junked. As a result I would
like whoever buys it to build it as the
racer it was.

If you think you might be interested in my Fury you can call me at 240-462-8983
The Fury is stored in Pennsylvania about 45 minutes from Carlisle and Hershey
so if you go to any car show at either location
you would not have to go out of your way
to see it.

Regards,

Nancy Kramer
