In many clubs, studebaker comes to mind, there are classes and awards for modified cars . Those classes can be very active people, who contribute a huge amount to club . Jim Pepper at Studebaker comes to mind. Best engine guy ever. Why they win stock drags. 289 stude v8  in larks beating 440 six packs, and 426 hemis 

That was anathema in our club( unless you hid a 440 stroked to 480 under 4 bolt valve covers) ; we might think about that . 
I like moderate improvements ,  personally . But just me . Might widen our appeal to a new younger faction. Suppose a 300 did well in all stock drags? H is one of the best bets.
