RE: [Chrysler300] 300K Tilt Schematics?

Great idea...yes!

You can fix the end at T , I have fixed two on F, very common problem , especially if T pulls out too far which accidentally bends wire at sleeve . Some are swaged or obvious crimp to T some seem molded on to center wire , but whatever, get old broken piece out, might have to cut off the T a small amount (minimize that ) ; then clean by drilling a small hole the size of the wire about 1/4 - 3/8 into the T end . The drilling shines up the inside so solder will "take" ..important. Solder soon after drilling, or it oxidizes. .

Then shine wire really clean with a razor knife scraping it all over for about 3/8" , put plumbing flux on wire , stick in and solder with plumbing solder and minimal gentle propane flame . Do not overheat, easy does it. I used old style lead 50/50 , "takes" better, but new no lead stuff should work too (and is stronger ), use correct flux, be sure other end, the screw in a brass thing is really tite, it can slip off. = mayhem

This fellow could make the raw cable , straight at both ends. Great find .

I have had the loops snap off ----- once on a Corvair I had, (turbo monza convert, it out leaks a Harley) --it had about 6 of these cables , I was able to fix that broken loop stuff by soldering an uninsulated electrical terminal eye made for # 16 wire to Bowdon wire end, same idea. Solder, if it takes (clean!) is probably stronger than the wire , washers on each side of terminal at reassembly . Works on 300 heater temp cable at adjusting slider too.

I found this source for heater cables. http://www.rayeveritt.com/HeaterCables/HeaterCables.html

Custom made to any length. Prices seem reasonable too.

The tilt wheel option was first offered by Chrysler in 1964. It was outsourced from Saginaw, a GM company. This link takes one to a detailed service bulletin for the mechanicals of the system as installed in a Chevrolet: http://www.jholst.net/tilt-wheel/1964-tilt-wheel.pdf The 1964 Chrysler Supplemental Service Manual covers the tilt wheel beginning on page 38: http://www.jholst.net/64-supplement/steering.pdf Electrically, the system requires a short transition wiring loom piece to change from the GM wiring to the Chrysler loom. A major difference is that the horn wire is included in the Chrysler connector but is separate in the GM wire bundle.

I have found that it is difficult to position the turn signal switch mounted near the floor board and that the Bowden cable from the hub to the switch was broken with no replacement available. Length is critical. I think my replacement came from a GTO, but can’t remember for sure.

David & All

I too have the Tilt wheel, does yours telescope? Mine does. I need a center cap for the steering wheel, do you have an extra? Also, do you have an extra steering wheel? Mine is marginal, and finding parts as you know is difficult, so when some body has one I must ask, you never know who has parts, also, if someone has the exploded view, give it to David first, and if available I also can use one.

PS: supposedly, the tilt/telescope column was sourced from General Motors (perhaps a Saginaw?), may help in the exploration for parts.

Hi All,
I'm in the midst of replacing the turn signal in my Ram K (tilt wheel option). Might someone have an exploding view schematics on the wheel and steering column?

We can't find anything online.
