Re: [Chrysler300] 300C battery

Hi,

If you take a group 27 NAPA or Walmart battery, take the 2-3 position caps off, and peel off all stickers you have a tar top battery.

If you don’t have any screw on caps left over, buy a fake tar top for a group 24 battery, file the threads so that they push in tight into the holes of the new battery. If the color of the caps is not right, spray them with plastic spray paint.

Once bought an Antique Auto Battery that had red screw caps. Still using the caps. Battery crapped out in short order.

I've been looking for an imitation "tar topper" for the Group 27 battery in my 300C for over five years, but a pretty thorough Internet search has come up empty.   I found several imitation toppers available for the more common Group 24 battery, but none for the Group 27.  And if you're going to get real picky about it, I understand that batteries of that era had red, yellow and green caps, depending on what years and what manufacturers  (Chrysler, Ford, GM)  so you'll want to be sure what to ask for.

I contacted a major eBay seller of Mopar items (including the tar-top battery disguise kit for Group 24 batteries only) and expressed the need of many Chrysler 300 Club members to find a similar cover for their Gr 27 batteries; they responded that they had approached the firm that makes the Gr 24 covers for them, but apparently there was no interest from that manufacturer.  Apparently, they don't see a large enough (read: highly profitable) market for these Gr 27 batteries.

If your search for the correct tar top is successful, please share your info with the rest of us!  Gary Goers (now Quirey) used to sell the stickers on the side; just be sure to get the right one for your year, because Gary's catalog offered several versions, depending on which years of 300's you were trying to fit.

Thanks to all with your help and advice re the repro batteries.
I will go and buy a good battery from a local supplier and get a tar top and stickers for it.
If the member that sells the stickers can communicate with me , I would appreciate that!
Jean-Yves.
