Re: [Chrysler300] age of ownership

All,

My father was the second owner of our Black 300 G. He bought it in 1967 when it was traded in on a new 1967 El Camino at Beach City Chevrolet in Long Beach CA. It has been in our family ever since. I was 17 at the time.

I restored the car several years ago and it has won many first place trophies at various car shows.

It gets lots of looks and questions about the car as many car guys have never even seen Chrysler 300 letter cars. They are so rare. Its been a pleasure to have it in our family for so many years.

Thanks,

Steve Simon

Thanks Gloria and Bob,

It has been lots of fun to read these 300 stories, so that was a very good idea Gloria.

I thought I’d be a winner, but Jim McDonnell replied right away and had me by a year.  I bought a 55 C300 from a Chrysler dealer used car lot in Toledo in 1961 when I was 17.  It was only $150 and the salesman gave me $1 for gas which bought about 3 gallons.  The car had a bashed in right rear fender, the windows were not operating, and they thought it had a cracked block.  The windows were just disconnected and the only coolant leak was at the gasket where the small trans fluid cooler attaches to the block, and I never fixed the badly damaged fender.  While Chryslers 300’s were my favorite car I was just using it for school and work so I wasn’t too concerned about it’s look.   100 mph was often a goal for me so I often had that 300 a few mph beyond 100 on different rural, low traffic roads around Toledo.   I did once lower all the windows simultaneously while going about 80 mph and the headliner was sucked down to my head and then my passengers heads, but then the headliner sprung back up as I quickly slowed down.

I think back and feel lucky to made it through all those years in one piece.

I think we need a contest to decide who the youngest Letter Series 300 owner is/was.

How old were you when you got your Letter Car?

(I was 27).

And Bonus Question, how old were you when you drove a 300 over 100 mph?

(I never have).

What say you?
