Re: {Chrysler 300} Distributor wiring

I did exact same thing , using very common 318/360 vacuum advance .I looked through all the numbers ( chrysler made about 10 different cans in late 50’s / early sixties and the way they spec it in service manual makes it hard to compare ( differing vacuum points or rpm vs degrees too ) , but I noticed that by about 1965 one part number shows up on almost all LA engines ,   they must have said just not that critical , use same one . max advance is often stamped right on arm too ,but may be dist  degrees . (1/2 crank) . vacuum advance is all about gas mileage mostly anyway . Yes use rivet hole or redrill a hole to fit pin slightly shorter so rest position of can and vacuum plate motion is the same . new hole just about touches old one ( how I did # 2 of these ) . 3D bending reshaping easier to do than describe — so it cannot hit . I put washer on arm so cannot pull all the way in to can another way to limit total .   probably not needed .
On another front , that cap looks tall , like later distributor . be sure to use tall rotor . If tall cap . Original cap and rotor are short . If you do not know about that you can get in trouble .
can send pics later

Hello Bill
Trick is to rework the canister arm. A new La canister connects via a pin small axle/pin. This is not the case on my original  ibk dist braker plate. So carfully grind off the ridge that has been pressed for holding the pin on the arm, remove pin & now you have a mounting hole that will work.
Carfully rework the bends/angle of the arm so it will fit the original pin on the braker plate.
I was so exited when i made my first one i damaged it...no problem there are plenty new ones out there! take your time bending,,i did minor grinding awell.
Mounting holes on la will work as the dist outside radius is the same or 98%same. Check arms on pics i think you got it..

My old text;
Whats wrong with dual points?
300c Ibk-4304 almost done!
Vacuum advance absolute since long.. I reworked an vc-155can,,not that dumb as it deliver 10degree advance,,,std unit offer 11 tuned by shims! Both pulls at 9hg vaccum.
I will probebly not do another one,,,live & learn thing. If you go this route check part sum-850426 & with this you can adjust vaccum timing..nice part i ordered one but still waiting for it so just went on doing my work.. .....
Mine bench tested today worked fine!
Yes i hav a few brand new electronic dist so please no comments on why doing this please!
The show must go on!

Dennis, i did mine this summer. Totaly restored, with a modified La waccum can.
For wires i looked for same quality that comes with a quality multimeter test probes , so all new silicon wires, high heat resistant. Worked as a charm!
Thanks Michael

Hi All,

Does anyone have a recommendation on a specific wire type to be used when rebuilding a 57 300C distributor? I am looking for a very flexible wire to renew all the internal wiring, ground strap to plate, power wires to points.
