{Chrysler 300} Re: one single 413 overbore piston needed

Dr. Kai, for replacement pistons you have two choices, forged and cast. Cast Pistons are what the factory used.  Forged pistons are made by Diamond, Keith Black, and others, that are sold by Hughes Engines, Mancini racing, and the 440 Source but are not stocked in a 413 size and you must custom order them. They are more expensive, require different cylinder clearances, and different rings but are much stronger than cast pistons, they also are noisier on start up until they warm up and expand. The engine must be rebalanced if you install them as they weigh less than cast pistons. Cast replacement aftermarket pistons were made by several manufactures most notably, Silvolite, Speedpro, and Egge but they are no longer in production. I called those company's and spoke to them directly, they told me they have no intentions of restarting 413 passenger car production, some do still make replacement 413 truck pistons. Occasionally new 413 truck/motorhome pistons show up for sale on some vendors sites in an overbore size, but most are low compression only, you have to watch closely for this spec in their literature. Also if you were able to get one piston I would be very concerned with mixing two different manufactures pistons due to the differences in weight and material that each one used.  The good news is late last year a company called Rebuilders Choice just started reproducing the 413 .030 overbore Cast pistons in the correct compression ratio for passenger cars. The pistons are cast in China and machined here in the states. I bought a set for my 60F and the machine shop I use was very impressed with the quality of them. They use a standard cast ring size and come with new wrist pins, but no rings. They checked out very good on weight and diameter consistency from one to the other and come friction coated. See

My piston set sold for about 400 including shipping, the rings were extra, I used Hastings rings for my installation.

Hello Group,

Looking for help.

I need one standard piston for my restauration (62 sport, 413 cui)

7 are perfect but unfortunately one is defect and can’t be fixed.

Must have a 0,30 overbore !!

A good used one is absolutely ok

Maybe somebody has one left over?

How about the Scandinavian members?

And in case you can’t help directly: where could I get a new one?

I know the Club had this discussion 3 years ago and it all came down to these racing companies (Diamond, Ross, Venolia) to have them custom made.

Maybe any new sources came up meanwhile?

Thank you very much and have a happy new year!

And of course smooth (or heavy) motoring!

Kai
