Re: {Chrysler 300} C300 rear shocks and springs

Jack,

A couple of comments regarding this.  Your rear springs should be (7) leaf assembly.  NYer and other models were (6) and did sit higher.  If you have (7) I suspect the shop arched them to NYer specs and this is part of the reason why the car sets higher.  I personally had this happen once by a local shop that I've used multiple times.  It all comes down to the person doing the work.  They should have a book and C300 will be shown as different.

Shocks are the same for both applications so my thought is maybe the shocks on your car are also not correct and I'd verify that.  What brand are you using and can you provide a part number.

I have had an interesting turn of events. My original 1955 rear springs were tired and the car was sinking, front and back. I did get new coils for the front but they are not installed yet – that’s another story.

I had the rear springs rebuilt by a shop here in KC that has been in business for over 100 years. They have books going back to WW1. They rebuilt my springs to factory (300?) specs but now the rear is too high. So high in fact that the rear shocks are acting as stops as it wants to be another 1” or so higher that it is now.

I will admit that the car is still not completed and is bare from the dash back but the seats, upholstery, spare tire, trim etc. does not weigh that much. If the new front coils are also “too stiff” the car will sit like an off roader. If the new coils raise the front a desired 1” or so, it will still look like it’s jacked up in the rear. As it sits now the rear is about 2.5” too high.

An suggestions that might include longer rear shocks or spring mods?

I hoped to have the car finished in 2 months.
