I've been cold starting a Ram Inducted 413 in my Savoy since 2007, has headers, no carb heat. 30 seconds of feathering until stable and off she goes. Many of my friends with all kinds of old cars purposely disable the crossover heat.

At this point, with our ancient vehicles being relegated to 'fair weather' use, is it just better to make sure the manifold valves are in the 'open' position?  On a nice day with ambient temps above 50 degrees, it doesn't take long for carbs to be heated up sufficiently to operate satisfactorily.

i don’t think those are right . The right stuff says heat manifold valve lubricants .
regular rust penetrant is gone in 5 seconds at manifold temp so is oil

Looking on Amazon I see two choices . They both claim to be good for " Heat Valve Solvent ". I have a can of the AC Delco that I use on mine.

Genuine Chrysler Accessories 4318039AC Rust Penetrant - 10.8 oz. Aerosol Can - 4318039AD. Cost 15.02 so there you go Rick 10 times the cost and its probably a much bigger can.

ACDelco GM Original Equipment 10-4020 Rust Penetrating Lubricant - VOC Compliant - 12 oz Aerosol. Cost 13.28

Says, $1.50  on the can, the old arisol still works great. I'd happily pay ten times that today, if I found any.

Hi John Grady,

You mentioned the special manifold lube, it is: Mopar – Heat Control Solvent Penetrating Fluid, 8 Oz can – Benefits: “Better Performance, Faster Warm Up, Smoother Idle.Part No. 4-187 & Part No. 3419 128

I still have two cans of it left.

Thanks for all your good articles and comments.

You got that right , more common then you think on all

our cars . rusts in the closed position after sitting a few years . there was a special lube for it every few thousand miles back then at oil change .
