RE: {Chrysler 300} Bob Rodger 300C

Skirts or spats as part of the design as in 65-68 Chrysler is one thing. JCWhitney skirts on cars never intended to wear them are similar in that way to Continental kits and are as tasteless.

Ryan & All:

I apologize to anyone offended by my comment.  Certainly, I was referencing to adding any non-factory skirts to almost any car not wearing them from the factory.    Where the removeable body panels/fender skirts are part of the original design, one certainly would not want to run around without them.  And open rear-wheel wells on the ’65-’66 cars would just not work.

I did rather like the open wheel wells on the ’55-‘56 Imperials which were very similar to the ’55-’56 letter cars.

I was not familiar with the skirt detail of the ’65-’66 cars.  Thanks for the learning opportunity.

I take exception to that comment, two of the most attractive 300’s ever designed, the ‘65 and ‘66, both have fender skirts and would look ridiculous without them.

Granted, I wouldn’t want to see them on anything earlier.

Agreed.  Nothing uglier than a letter car with skirts.

Virgil Exner did not like fender skirts.  He believed the wheel was the essence of the car and should be prominent.  Don't believe any Exner production car ever had fender skirts.
