Re: {Chrysler 300} Bob Rodger 300C

It would be great if Bob’s C could be at the Spring Meet in South Carolina ! Just wondering.

BTW, Chrysler sold fender skirts through the accessory catalog at least for 1960. They list stainless steel ones for 1960 Plymouth and Dart. The text is pretty funny as it says the following:

"For the ultimate in clean, racy-looking lines. MoPar Fender Skirts just can't be beat. Slip a pair on that convertible or hard-top floor model and you won't sell another one without "skirts." especially if the younger-set is involved in the purchase."

Part number 2196 895, retail price $24.95. Net price $15.10.

I don't care for them on the Bob Rodger special but if he had them put on in the beginning, they should stay on there, or at least stay with the car if they can be removed without leaving any marks. I think it's a cool car, I kind of like the two-tone paint and the sweep trim.

Hello 300’ly to all!
Within a few months after Bob Cornett’s passing his son called me regarding the selling price of the Bob Rodger car. We both were confused regarding it being worth more or less than what pristine C coupes were going for at that time.  Son thought it was maybe difficult to sell because not many folks would appreciate the unique value of the car and the custom changes made with the exterior, two- tone paint job, fender skirts and the interior color and materials. My advice was to market for it’s uniqueness which is always a priority for collectors in the know.  What transpired after that conversation I do not know. The 300C surround bezel was unique in that it and the trim strip were a special nickel casting and not stainless. Rob Kern

Agreed.  The 300L was the first Lettercar completely designed by Elwood Engel who had come from Ford.  Note the resemblance with the rails along the top of the doors and side trim as it was on the Lincolns, Mercurys and Thunderbirds of that era.  Even though I would have preferred the car not having skirts, the 300L styling called for them.

Esner's designs, good or bad, all had flowing sculptured looks as compared to Elwood Engel's squared off and chiseled lines.  Much more conventional of course.  I always thought Engel's name should have been spelled "Angle" because everything he designed was angular and squared off.

Oddly enough, they kept the open rear wheel wells on the 1964-66 Imperials which were much more Engel than Exner except for the windshield area.
