RE: {Chrysler 300} 1959 Chrysler 300 E Speedometer Cable Noise

Hi Rob Lutts,

A little bit of history of your 300E:

Robert Winkler bought the 300E from 300 Club member Jerry and Page Schlegel. The Schlegel’s including brother Jim at one time had over 70 cars. Page Schlegel was a former President of the Chrysler 300 Club, Inc. It was listed for sale for over a year by Dale Matthews of Memory Lane Motors in Portland OR. I sent the information to the Club at the time it was sold by Luella Winkler. Dale Matthews also bought Winkler’s Red 300C stick which originally was owned by Ray Doren,  who was the founder of the Chrysler 300 Club Inc which was formed in Portland, Oregon in 1969, The 300C needed a complete restoration so Dale sold it to a restoration person in the east. I have a 300C coupe we purchased July 1958 which still has the original copper brown paint and was featured on Legendary Auto Interiors 2021 Calendar.

Welcome to the Club.

John C, Portland

Subject: {Chrysler 300} 1959 Chrysler 300 E Speedometer Cable Noise

I am new to this group, Just bought a 1959 300 E (Radiant Red) in very good condition-

it came from Portland Oregon( the car now resides in my garage in Salem Massachusetts). It was owned by a fellow out in Portland for

close to 40 years…his name was Robert Winkler. I was told by the

dealer I bought it from it sat for about 10 years and was not driven.

They worked to get it into pretty good shape. Engine runs and starts well.

When I get over 20 mph there is a whiling noise coming from what I think

may be the speedometer cable. I have only driven the car 4 times (still enter here)

and each time  I drive it I think the sound is a bit less. Can anyone tell me how to to lubricate this speedometer cable?

Thanks

Rob Lutts Salem Massachusetts
