RE: {Chrysler 300} Brake Drum Springs

Hi Jamie -

When I saw the subject of your email, the brake springs that came to mind were the internal springs that allow the shoes to retract after releasing the brake pedal. The last time I spoke to Chris at Andy Bernbaums, he said that he no longer had them in stock. This would be a desirable project as the same springs are used for all 1957- early 59 Mopars with 12" brakes. A different set are used for late 1959 - 62, again with 12" brakes.

Would your spring vendor be able to supply us with these as well ? They need to be a certain number of coils and have a specified 'tensile strength', I believe the term is.

Ron

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Brake Drum Springs

Hello Club, I am gauging interest in reproducing the “spring” that goes around the brake drum on the 12” drum brake cars. At one time we had a club member who made these for us, but sadly he no longer does. We have found a vendor who is willing to do the project but of course it is all about the set up costs and the quantity involved. I think we can bring these in for about what they cost back when they were being reproduced by our member. We are looking at about 80 dollars a set (4) plus shipping.  If you are interested in having me pursue this please let me know and I will work on it. It would be a volume purchase and once they sell out we would not be able to get any more from that vendor unless we pay the set up costs again. Send me an email at Jamie.hyde@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and I will add you to my spreadsheet, this would not be a commitment to buy then,  just for me to get an idea of how many we this we think we would need to order before I approach the club board for funding. For you guys with the 11” drums let me know as well because I will start another spread sheet for them as they are of course different than the 12” but first we are going to look at the 12” drum springs.
