Hi Mike;

The steering shaft is spring loaded into the bearing
at the steering wheel area. You have to move the shaft
up in order to access the snap ring groove. I use a pry bar
and an extra set of hands but it is a wrestle.

Here is one way to do it, an article coming out in the next E News.

Steering Shaft Reassembly
My pal Bill was replacing the rubber steering coupler in his 62 Imperial. He writes: I had a lot of trouble getting the snap ring to attach on the steering shaft bearing up by the steering wheel. I saw your video and I tried vice grips and a wooden block but they were chewing up the shaft too much. I came up with http://www.chrysler300club.com/newsletter/62/sshaft/2.html and it worked fine. It is just a short piece of 1-1/2 inch schedule 40 PVC and a couple of washers large enough to fit over the shaft.

Hi all.  Im having a hard time installing the steering column in my 300g.  I have the box in the wedge adjusted and the coupling all together.   I have the snap ring spring washer and cone washer on the column. The part that is tripping me up is the top of the column where the wheel attaches.  I can’t get it snug, the shaft moves side to side.  It was like this before I took it apart too. I think I’m missing a part.   The pics of what I have are below.  Any thoughts?

Thanks mike
