Re: {Chrysler 300} Driving Experiences with less than a 3.23 ring and pinion ratio

You may not get a great advantage in fuel economy but the lower revs at highway speed will be a good thing. The 413 has plenty of torque to get it moving.

My '60 NY wagon has 2.93 gears in it and once I get it going, I'll see how it drives out. I actually thought about swapping in the spare 300F axle I have with 3.31 gears but it's going to be a highway cruiser so I'll probably just use the housing. The original wagon housing is very crusty.

One other thing to pay attention to is if you have sure grip now or are planning to put in a sure grip. There are thrust spacers used on the sure grip axles. How I Do It, Sure Grip Spacer Pin (chrysler300club.com)

James,

I have a 2.93 rear end in my 300G, originally a 3.23.  I get about 14 mpg from my G with normal freeway driving.  Since the 2.93 has been in place since I bought the car, I can’t speak to performance compromises, but it launches fast and accelerates like crazy.  I won’t go back, don’t see the need, I’m not into burnouts.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Driving Experiences with less than a 3.23 ring and pinion ratio

Hi All,

I am thinking of changing out the 3.23 rear end on the 1964 300K.

I would appreciate any driving experiences by folks that may have a 300 with a 413 and auto that has the 2.76 or 2.93. Since this car is going to be a daily driver and I regularly drive it from San Francisco to our place out of town, 160 miles round trip, and we will use it in the next year for a cross country trip….

…I am thinking about gas milage….

Any comments would be appreciated on driving through the mountains with the low gears and on general acceleration like on freeway on ramps and the like.

Thanks, James
