{Chrysler 300} RE: Driving Experiences with less than a 3.23 ring and pinion ratio

Thank everyone for the information and thoughts. I got a lot of comments both via the list and directly.

Some people said they changed to a lower gear and got better milage and some said it was way too sluggish. Ask 10 people, get 10 different answers, I guess…

I am buying a full rearend with the 2.76. I think I may just stick it in as is and try it. That way I can evaluate it to my driving style. Then when I have decided between the 2.76 and the 3.23 I can then rebuild fully the one I will use.

The only other idea, and I really do not want to tear into a trans is there is a company making a different set of transmission ratios that I could look into to better match the 2.76….

…but then I have to do all the math for changing the stall speed on the converter and all the engine timings…and….and…

Best, James

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Driving Experiences with less than a 3.23 ring and pinion ratio

Hi All,

I am thinking of changing out the 3.23 rear end on the 1964 300K.

I would appreciate any driving experiences by folks that may have a 300 with a 413 and auto that has the 2.76 or 2.93. Since this car is going to be a daily driver and I regularly drive it from San Francisco to our place out of town, 160 miles round trip, and we will use it in the next year for a cross country trip….

…I am thinking about gas milage….

Any comments would be appreciated on driving through the mountains with the low gears and on general acceleration like on freeway on ramps and the like.

Thanks, James
