{Chrysler 300} Steering 300K likely bad

Hi All,

I fired up the 300K today. Other than one water hose leak, all the replaced water related items are not leaking. Lucky on that. The power steering pump so far no leaks with the new seals. The replaced with factory dual point dizzy is fine, although I put a Pertronix unit in it. I have the dual point plate all set up and in a bag for the road just in case. The rebuilt AFB in place of the Edelbrock looks ok, but the choke fast idle needs a little work. I think the little spring may be tired.

Mt big issue is the steering. I put my alignment turning plates under the tires and went through the service procedure on adjustment. Or should I say I tried.

I backed off the nut and tried to tighten the nut down to take all the slack out of the mesh and there was no more to get. I went through it three times. I suspect that some idiot cranked down on the adjuster without following the factory procedure and wiped out the mesh.

I guess my spare unit will have to go to firm feel. When I was putting on the steering wheel after the dash work, I noted it wanted to cock a little side to side. I suspect that the runner isolator in the lower column is shot as well.

So, I guess a full steering column and steering box rebuild in going to have to happen.

I will test drive it in the morning and see what I get.

Best, James
