Re: {Chrysler 300} 1962 Throttle Linkage Question

linkage should work no matter what , but agree shaft should be straight and level . oversize the holes if need be .
This is NOT precision  stuff why all the set up adjustments  to get it right are needed after assembly — despite many variations inherent in what is going on… motor mounts are just not precision things but if course bolts need to be in about correct place .
We may be overthinking this ..

Matt, have you had the frame (subframe) checked since the accident?

If the engine moved during the accident then something is sprung or ajar as the bracket that holds the end of the rod would have moved as well.

Matt,

My ’64 has the same basic arrangement. If the rod is not level and the parts are not bent…then the bracket on the block must be lower than it was thus causing the downward slope of the rod.

Get someone with a ’62 to place a straight edge across the valve covers and measure down to the top of the frame rail behind the carburetor. Then check yours and see if the engine is sitting high or low. If it is then that is the issue. If not, then something in the linkage is bent.

Hello All,

In my quest to put our ’62 300 Sport back together after a front end collision….

I have replaced all motor & trans mounts with new from Imperial Services; as the rubber had torn away from their steel cores upon impact.

I thought that would have fully restored and leveled the motor where it needs to live.

Yesterday I noticed that the Throttle Linkage was NOT 100% Horizontal on the Firewall.

The section that bolts to the Firewall, with its 3 bolts, is good.

But…

The Horizontal Rod that lives from Firewall & attaches to the top of transmission mount, with the plastic clip…

That Rod is slightly angled down.

In this image it seems 100% Horizontal.

I’m referring to “SHAFT 14-11-1

<PastedGraphic-1.tiff>

Should that Horizontal Rod be 100% level?

If so I am doomed & need to investigate further where my issue is with the height of the drivetrain - Yay!

Thanks

Matt Allyn
