Re: {Chrysler 300} Hood rear high, 300K

That is strange. I have had several 63-65 B Bodies that I did that on purpose (old drag racer trick to feed cold air into the intake from the cowl) and I did it by lifting the hinge braces up to their maximum height.

From what you described, that is not the case here so I’m stumped!

Good luck (although I’m guessing a  club member will know a fix!)

Hi all,

I have been pulling my hair out for 3 hours. When I purchased the 300K the rear of the hood was sitting up. They did some engine work at some point and no doubt removed it.

I did not think much about it, I figured they just did not do a good job when they put took it off and on. I did note that they screwed up and did not drill two small alignment holes which is a very old trick that works every time.

The rear of the hood is 1/4 to 3/8 inch high across the rear of the hood. Not matter what I try. I have the three hinge screws allowing the hinge to set as far down as the slots will allow. At first, I thought that hood may have an issue in the middle preventing it from going down.

I took some tie down straps and placed them about 4 inches either side of the hood centerline and then closed the hood. I could pull them out with any tension.  So not the hood hitting in the center of the cowl.

AT the end of three hours, It appears that the hinges themselves are what is preventing the hood from settling down flat at the rear. I just took off the two round rubbers from the rear corners of the hood at the fender and they are factory and look like they NEVER saw any compression. Tall and good as new just rock solid. With them out it made no difference.

Has anyone ever seen a issue like this? Aero evidence of anything every having been tweeked in any way. Help!

PS. THe temp steering box from John at Big M is working good as is the booster from Booter Exchange.
