RE: {Chrysler 300} Radio's

In 63 and 64 Chrysler offered two AM radios – a “5 button” manual tune and a “7 button” with search tune feature.   Imperial only offered the 7 button search tune.  So I think that is what you mean by “extra two buttons.”  The 5 button and 7 button radios are different in size and electronics – but both fit the dash.  The 5 button radio was new in 63 and 100% solid-state (fully transistorized) whereas the 7 button in 63-64 was still electronically a carryover hybrid from 62 (tube front end plus 2 transistor audio output).   The Bendix supplied 7 button AM radio in both Chrysler and Imperial in 63-64 were electronically identical, except that Imperial still had the electroluminescent lit dial in 63 and Chrysler had bulbs, both had bulbs for 64, just the dial was different.  So the physical size of the chassis/case should be the same, BUT, I do not know if the dial and dash bezel size is the same.  The search tune rarely works properly after all these years, complicated and sometimes impossible to fix, just tune manually.

I’m not going to get into a discussion on conversions, but I will say that the AM quality of these vintage sets is far superior to the garbage AM sections in modern car radios.    If FM and/or Bluetooth turn your crank, then go for it, but please don’t cut up a good radio.  Cores are out there although prices have gone up.

FYI starting in mid-63 and carryover to 64, Chrysler offered their first AM-FM sets, 100% solid state, made by Delco, 5 button manual tune.  You need the special bezel and escutcheon for the AM-FM sets. They were a smaller chassis, crowded inside and an absolute pain to work on, contained 9 electrolytic capacitors which can go bad, but good sets when they work.  You can Bluetooth with an RF signal to any FM set, no need to do a mod,  just FYI if interested in stock setup.

We are working on a radio page for the Club website, should be ready in the spring.

Can anyone tell me if the 1963 or 1964 IMPERIAL AM radio with the extra two buttons will fit into a 300?

Looking to use one for a conversion.

I happened to turn on the radio in the car and it works just fine…I hate to cut it up.  The Imperial AM radio has two extra buttons in it that can be used in a conversion.
