{Chrysler 300} 64 300 parking brake cables

Hello Group,

Parking brakes, after adjustment per the manual, will pop and release under a load.

Both cables were treated with WD 40 when last apart.

It's a bit surprising to hear them pop, and watch the vehicle start to roll

Most times the manual trans is in 2nd gear while resting
Other times in neutral with wheels chocked

Cables have no rust on their springs
Only in neutral it gets scary? And actions need to be quick

Should they be replaced?
Thanks
Dave D.
