Re: {Chrysler 300} Chrysler Hemi generator projects

Thanks John. Some info on each one:

Red one was built by a company in Detroit called Ready-Power.  It was was used as aux. power for a factory in MA since 1956. The original invoice and other literature comes with it. It’s a 50 KVA AC unit. I cannot vouch for the generator functioning but the Hemi does crank and fire. It does have valve cover bumps which indicate solid lifters. It is mounted to a sturdy frame with industrial casters, per the photo.

The grey unit was built by Hobart Bros. in OH. I bought it from a farmer in PA. That generator is 12V DC power, which used to be common at air strips to start civilian aircraft (Military used 24V). That unit is up on a nice rolling chassis on a set of Firestone 700 X 16 Deluxe Champions.  The valve covers are smooth, suggesting hydraulic lifters.

Either one is interesting by itself or perhaps a merger of the two. They are in Milford CT, and probably weigh about 1 Ton each.

The unit I restored is a Hobart just like this one, but was ex-USAF, making a not very useful to me 24V DC. So I found a 60KVA Monarch AC generator and swapped it in to use as my backup at home.

Thanks for asking.

Chuck

I believe these have solids and "dented valve covers", good stuff. I once assisted a 354 industrial out of a Cambridge junkyard on a Sunday afternoon, , it was brand new inside, solid lifters : it came off an air raid siren I think. It was in pieces in  boxes, and skid. Ended up in a 54 Ford 2 dr sedan.

Funny story, it had one kind of oil filler, some parts were used from a junk ?331 at the time ---one had oil filler in front timing cover, one in valley cover. Without thinking, I put it all together, standing with the oil cans, no place to put oil in(*!). Hey young and crazy, in a hurry. So we had to pull a spark plug to get oil in via the valve cover. Too  much work to change that , drove for years in the early 60's like that. I used to ask gas station guy to add oil, that was a lot of fun.

I Went with 5 guys to NYC St Patrick's day parade , around 1966. On the way back at night someone else was driving, he  fell asleep, hit a tree on Meritt parkway,... Not a good night. Maybe it is somewhere in Connecticut..

How many KW is generator? Three phase or single? Volts?

Something for the Chrysler fan who has everything, almost, and wants a different project.

Chrysler sold engines for all kinds of industrial applications, including generators.  I have restored one to use as my backup generator and have these two that I can tell I’ll never get around to.  So they are for sale.

Both are powered by 331” Industrial Hemi’s. Both motors crank and fire up. The generators are another story.

Rather than dump a whole lot of information out there I’d be happy to chat with anyone by email, or text or a call to cell 203-434-0992.

Asking $2,500 for each or work a deal for the two.

Chuck
with eleven 331” Hemi’s, which is too many at this point
