RE: {Chrysler 300} 300B oil filter cannister

I've owned my C300 for 54 years this summer. Sometime in the 70s my father, a long time Mopar mechanic braised a washer on the top of the canister and carefully machined the surface. From that point on - using a thin copper washer between the bolt and the canister I had no leaks.

Also in the 70s I purchased a trash bag full of 50+ correct oil filters at a swap meet in Denver for $20. I continued to use those until a few years ago. I noticed that the paper elements were deteriorating and I actually was able to take a few apart with my bare hands and they just crumbled.

I got very concerned that old oil filters are not the way to go and although you can still purchase the correct element at Napa and other locations I was getting kind of tired of changing it with the gasket, manifold and all.

I bought a Hot Hemi converter found a source for solid black PH-8A oil filters with a vinyl label that peels off and you cannot tell the difference except that there is no hex head on the end that new black canister. It just sits down there in the dark, doing its job with the brand new fresh element.

Long ago I stopped looking for any N.O.S. rubber or paper parts for any of my old cars. I have fresh belts, hoses, brake parts, seals, etc. on my 4 old Mopars.

My friend with a B has a leaking Crush nut on his oil filter canister and is inclined to use a spin on adapter. I don't like those. What say you folks on the best way to solve his leak?
