RE: {Chrysler 300} Accelerator Pumps

This is a trick I learned a while back, I believe I read it on the H.A.M.B. site.  Add  a small amount of  TCW-3 rated 2 stroke oil to the gas tank when filling up.  The ratio is 1 oz/5 gallons of fuel.    My engine runs great, doesn’t knock, and I have no carb problems when it sits for extended periods.  Most 2 stoke oils are TCW-3 rated, so its easy to find, I buy mine at Walmart.  Not sure what is in Marvel Mystery oil, but it could provide a similar benefit.

Just pull the carb tops. On the 300F it is about 10 minutes per carb. Be careful to not lose the two small linkage clips on each carb. Make sure you remove the metering rods before you take the carb tops off (and take your time inserting them after the tops are reinstalled). Then you can easily remove the "squirters" and unplug them. While they are off, work the pumps to make sure fuel is getting to the squirters. If you have not, while you are in there, make sure the floats are set correctly for height and drop. I totally inderstand the problems with California fuels, Arizona has it even worse. I have used Marvel Oil for years to add "lubricity" to today's very "dry" fuels. It definitely helps the valves seal in both mechanical and electric fuel pumps and may well help aliviate the sticking check balls in accerarator pump systems.

mine are on a 405 H clone , the squirters came off ok . Not sure what to say ?

i don’t remember specifics , but we did not pull carbs , at least in my mind . not sure of exact process that day a year ago.

I do remember though, vividly , how careful one must be —-with the carb still on , as i had read of a guy doing it , tried the pump action once he had it free  and the check jumped out due to gas flow and fell into carb .

He did not notice and started engine , wrecked a cylinder .= wrecked engine  .
maybe being a clone mine has later afb or edelbrock carbs ? is pulling air horn that big a deal ? yes , many screws ..

maybe a real carb expert chimes in ..

John, the airhorn of these carburetors isn't quite hogged out enough to gain access to the 2 screws to get the top of the discharge nozzle off without taking the airhorn off.  Otherwise I would have done that.  Both of my carburetors are the original ones to the F.

What do folks in the Club do to Keep Accelerator Pump discharge check valves from sticking shut from today's garbage fuel.?  After taking my 300F to the California meet in September of last year, in just 3 months the nozzles in both carburetors stuck shut and now I want to drive the car again and it looks like I need to take both carburetors off and apart to free them up again.  I don't recall having this happen so quickly in the past but even draining the tank and putting in fresh fuel before the meet, this still happened more quickly than before.  Maybe here in California there is even more ethanol going into our gas but this is really getting old.

I can go to airports and get non polluted fuel but that is both inconvenient and expensive.  In this state, there are no regular non ethanol fuel stations.

Does anyone have a better way to unstick the discharge valves?

Thanks
