{Chrysler 300} RE: 1964 question on grill trim

Turns out there is a 5th bolt I could not see clearly under all the undercoating.

The undercoating also made it hard to get the Chrysler emblems off the side of the car.

The way they built the thing, you cannot get the shield off without damaging the Chrysler emblem mounting studs and the undercoat makes it so that you cannot pull them from the outside. One must get the coating off the try to press the emblem out just enough to tap the shield forward enough to get a small hammer in behind it to tap the rear stud to get the emblem off and out of the way.  If one tries to fore the shield out it will break the Chrysler Emblem Stud.

I am going to grind the shields a on one side a little bit back so that there is more clearance getting the thing in and out. New masticated rubber on the edges will also help a lot.  What a PITA just to get those two trim items off.

One wonders if putting in two nutcerts into the body and drilling and counter-boring those two trim parts and then just using a machine screw from the outside would be a better long term solution.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} 1964 question on grill trim

Hi All,

I need to pull those little 90 degree trim parts that attach to the body at the grill opening. You know the ones, that require getting the front fender splash shield off.

I tried to get one off yesterday and it felt like it was still attached.

The four bolts were pulled. There is something right in the middle of the shield. I thought it was a bolt under the undercoating. But it tis not. It almost looks and feels like there is an insert or something in it. Does something screw to it from the headlight bucket side?

Given it has been decades since I had one off, I just do not remember, and the parts book is not detailed enough to show it.

Can anyone advise as I am up at the Winters house and have the lift to get under there. I need to get these off in the next few hours.

Thanks, James
