Re: {Chrysler 300} 15 inch wheel 1963 question

Here is my wagon with 15x7 Magnum GT wheels, which are the same as the cop car wheels but no nubs for the dog dish caps. The tires here are 235/70R-15s. They are about the same height as the original 9.00x14 tires that were on 14x6.5" wheels. The car is the same platform as the 1964 Chrysler.

Great, so they pushed the wheel out and kept the inner lip at the same place.  Thanks, James

The 15x7 police wheels have a 4 inch backspacing. I recently measured this for someone else. I have them on my 1960 Chrysler New Yorker wagon as well as my 1964 Polara.

Hi Don,

I am aware of that. The issue if buying an aftermarket wheel is which backspace to order. If you have a spare on the ’64 would you measure the backspace for me?

James,

The Grand Fury and Diplomat had 15x7 inch wheels and they were plentiful. Police cars and taxis all had them.

They fit my 64 Ram-K convert and are still on it.

Can someone with a factory 15 inch wheel for a 1963 tell me if the wheel backspace was 4 inches like the 1964 14 inch wheel or did they use a different backspace?

I am going to order some aftermarket wheels for the ’64 and want to get the backspace correct. The likely wheels would be a 15x7 wheel. I am wondering if the extra wheel width, if in fact it is wider, was on the “outside”, the “Inside” or split between the two.
