RE: {Chrysler 300} 57 300C wheels

It does not surprise me if they went under. I also knew Frank, had been using him since he purchased the place decades before he ate his shotgun.

Harley, the man in the shop with the most wheel knowledge did a special set of wheels for me for my 1947 Desoto to clear the front disc brake conversion. The Long Wheelbase cars had large chassis than the rest of the cars in those years.

After about 5 years after they were on we started to get micro cracks in the wheels. I tried to get the new owner to engage with me to solve the problem and he would not. Even after I had purchased another “regular” set for another car and sent several people to him for wheels.

His lack of support and sloppy attitude to customer follow up tells me that over time people may well have gone elsewhere.

I purchased a set of 5 new 14 inch wheel from Wheel Vintiques for the 300K. I have new tires on them. The only issue is the valve stem hole is not in the exact same place. I found that some shredder extenders with an angle can work with the hubcaps. I also created the anti-rotation bumps using JB weld.

That said, we have decided to go with a set of custom wheels to use on the car for daily driving and cross-country trips. Less trouble with missing hubcaps when parked in motels overnight.

So, in the next month or so when I get around to getting the new wheels and tires, all 15 inch, I will be selling the brand new 14 inch wheels and tires.

I think that the 63 wheels are 15 inch but I am no expert. Are you sure that yours are 14 inch?

 Hi to all,

Original Chrysler hubcaps fit the Stockton wheels.

A Chrysler mechanic who worked on these beasts when they were new told me that the original wheels flexed too much to accept radial tires that put more lateral stress on the wheels.

I worked with the original owner of Stockton Wheel (Frank Mauro, since deceased) to manufacture modern radial wheels for our cars. His main wheelwright eventually took over the business. Best to call them not e-mail and use their order numbers from this article.

Please be aware that these modern wheels are “Lug Centric” because the center hole doesn’t fit exactly to the hubs. It is larger. Be sure to order lug nuts with larger heads in RH or RH/LH threads where appropriate. Also, it is a good idea to have them powder coated since hubcaps grab better and 2 bumps on either side of the valve stem hole that keep the hubcaps from creeping and pinching the valve stem.

You are right. Rims are 14 x 6.5.  I think that Stockton Wheel may be the answer. I have an email out to them. Thanks!
