Re: {Chrysler 300} Ignition Coil Capacitor

Thanks. AC is non functional and not sure if I’ll ever get it work but knowing what that’s for is good to know.

Thanks

hi , ac clutch or ac system may have problems , someone unplugged clutch power . assuming that is the AC clutch lead , there is a spot for it at front of compressor — which i think is blue in later cars but not sure about 56 .  . look at wiring diagram for the single wire at AC compressor and see color that matches wire number .
unplugging is smart if AC  system had a leak , bad compressor or clutch . it stops compressor from turning if unplugged .
so you can leave off till or if you get into AC system .
hooe that helps ,

Here is the plug I am not sure what it supposed to plug into. Like I said before it runs from the main harness by the brake booster and across the engine to over by the AC condenser. I can’t see any plug that it would go to. It’s also been unplugged for as long as I can remember working on this car. So if it’s nothing important I’ll probably just leave it for now.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

yes Danny  right the capacitor on the coil connector  to the wire that does NOT go to the points  . it has no impact on car  running .
The important one for running is inside the distributor
Really should it put 12 v right into  coil
with no ballast resistor , can burn up coil
if left on very long and can burn face of points too
Again Dan is correct , use factory manual  for colors and functions .
You cannot just “ try it and see”
with electric wires , you can easily burn up your harness . Manual is very good if you take your time on it
good luck   john

Insight will be dim. Photos would help, color of wire too.

Best thing is for you to get out your shop manual wiring diagram, study it a bit along with your wire and soon enough you will figure it out. The capacitor on the coil is a noise filter to keep HV ignition noise out of the radio speaker.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} Ignition Coil Capacitor

Hello,

I am working on getting my B running and I have a few loose wires that I am not sure what they do or if they are important.

One of those wires is on the ignition coil. It was connected to a capacitor. The capacitor was not connected to anything. I'm assuming if it is supposed to be connected to anything it's a ground. We weren't getting a good spark so I have a jumper from the battery directly to the positive side of the coil. Get a good spark and the car fires quite nicely. Though the key doesn't shut the car off. This is just temporary.

Another wire is more mysterious. It comes across the engine bay from the driver to passenger side. My car has AC so maybe it's for that but I cannot see any plug for it. The plug is not one that shows up anywhere else on the car that I can tell. It is oval/elliptical and has a decent gauge wire coming off of it with a 2-3" rubber boot at the end.

I can take some pictures later but was curious if anyone had any insight.
