Re: {Chrysler 300} SMS Door Panels

I had new panels made by SMS (2021) for my 1961 Newport and they are better than the originals. Prefect in every way.  Only issue, it took almost two years to have them completed.

The real question for me is how would the panel material hold up pulling them every year or so to check the power window mechanism?

When I did the sets in the 1980’s with the RS&S material those clips stayed put much better than they do with the pressboard.

James-

The door card in the photo is an SMS made panel. These were done in 2007. They are 61 Dodge panels as used on Canadian Plymouth. Quality is excellent

Anyone in the club have SMS make them new door panels? I did two sets in the 1980’s myself using Restoration Supply and Specialties tar impregnated multi-ply door material. It took a lot of hours to cut them correctly and transfer everything over. I really do not relish doing it again.

That said, SMS uses the same pressboard the factory used, and that stuff is nothing but a giant sponge. I like the idea of saving me the work, but I am loath to have panels made from that crap. In addition, those pressboard panels come apart at the clip holes even when using the correct player to pull them away.

Given that 1964-1964 has such a problem ongoing with the regulator mechanisms failing, one must get into those doors more often than all my other cars. More chance for door panel problems.

So, if any has spent the money having them make up a new set, I would like to hear about your experience.

Remember. Daily Driver. Lot of use.

Thanks, James
