Re: {Chrysler 300} Generator Rebuild

I was looking at the Gener-nator page after you all mentioned it here in this email thread because I was wanting to convert over to an Alternator in a '56 Desoto that I have. Pretty sure the same ALternator used on the 300Bs.

Problem is, with this setup having the power steering pump attached, the Gener-Nator page said they cannot do the conversions, but can rebuild them.

I have recently been toying with the idea of using a GM style generator/alternator reproduction piece, and seeing if the Mopar power steering pump would work on the back of this alternator, as GM had a similar setup. Here is the one thats sold as an Alternator that has the attached PS pump.....

Somehow, use the generator/alternators above that are GM pieces, dress them up to look like Mopar generators, and run the mopar power steering pump on them. Not sure if this has ever been tried. I know, sounds crazy, but I really want to retain the stock look (as much as possible), but have an alternator.

If anyone knows of someone doing this conversion, or has done it themselves, I would be very interested in talking to them....

Jim, if the Luna you mentioned finding on-line is Luna Industries dba Luna Rebuilders in Tucson, they have rebuilt both generators and starters for me in the past from a variety of cars ranging from the Brass Era to the 60's.  Their work has always been successful with a prompt turnaround time. I've never needed them for work on my 300H, but would have full confidence in them should that need arise.

Any recommendations on where I can get my 300-F generator rebuilt?

I've located a number of rebuilders online including Pro Rebuilders, Luna, Kaestner, and North Star but wouldn't mind a reference.

Also if anybody has had any experience with "Gener-Nator" conversions would be interested to hear about it.

Thanks,

Jim
