Re: {Chrysler 300} F/G decals - Air Cleaners placement -

Hi Noel-
Yep thanks!  This is how I’ve been doing the wing nuts and air cleaner decals.  Was asking about the decals for anti-freeze etc, should have specified this.  On the F it would seem they go on the valance, in whatever order you care to put them.  So far, it seems Goers style decals are not exactly correct at least for 1960.

Buncha minor stuff really, but if you’re going to do it, may as well do it right.

Catching up on today's emails, here's my input on the F/G air cleaners' wingnuts and decals positioning. On my driver F, I haven't added the core support decals, so not commenting on those.

First, here's my email exchange with our 300 Club's F/G consultant, Don Verity, on July 4, 2022 -
Hi Noel,
The air cleaner to carb wing nut would be bare metal.

Hi Don,
On the F & G air cleaners, a question on the 2 wing nuts on each air cleaner -
  • I know the wing nut on the stud that holds the air cleaner together is painted gold.
  • Is the wing nut that holds the air cleaner to the carb painted gold or is it unpainted silver? My understanding is that this 2nd nut is unpainted, but I could well be wrong.
Thanks, Noel
Second, the wingnuts Chrysler used at Jefferson Avenue were the 'open' style, with the wings themselves being slotted and not solid. We've had this discussion in the not-too-distant past.

Third, the reasoning for the painted/unpainted wingnut pairs was that the air cleaners were first assembled and then painted gold, with the single wingnut installed. After the paint dried, the air cleaner decals were applied - all applied to the same location on the air cleaners - opposite the indent that's positioned to clear the vacuum unit on the right (passenger) side of the firewall. This properly positioned the right air cleaner's decal to face directly forward. And, since we know the installed air cleaners are angled differently right and left, the left (driver) side decal is necessarily facing outward to the left fender on that left side air cleaner, while the indent is facing inward, toward the center of the engine.

Fourth, when the air cleaners were moved to installation on our motors, they were fastened to the carbs using unpainted wingnuts pulled from a parts bin.

See the attached photos of my F's engine with the proper wingnuts and decals placement. Ignore the black-painted coil bracket that should be unpainted.

Hopefully you all receive this. I bought water slide decals from Sven Andersson. He furnished the attached photos of an original car and directions. In my years with these cars most decals I see are wrong (late model antifreeze warning) and I cannot remember seeing any two alike.

Also attached are the stickers on my F using Sven's instructions.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} F/G decals

Does anyone know a good reference source for F and G engine compartment decal locations, or 1960-1 decal locations in general?
The F reference car photos don’t seem to show this and I know they will be different on a G too.

Thanks!
