Apparently it is very difficult to get the pitting in the grooves removed without damaging the ridges.  Several years ago I had a set redone by an outfit in California (Schilling, I believe) and they did a pretty good job, but not to OEM standards.  I'm not sure whether they are still in business.

By that I mean minor pitting repaired without trace, and not the thick, dipped in honey look of the chrome.
