--Thanks all. I was not aware of the upgrades the F&G tannys had installed from the factory. I am going to have my tranny rebuilt. When I remove my tranny is there a way to tell if it truly a F transmission? I was told it was rebuilt 7 years ago and driven very little so who knows what the last guy did?Jay

Subject: Re: {Chrysler 300} needed torqueflight transmissionOne correction. The front clutch takes 4 frictions. The only one that takes 5 is the 56, and it's a one year only style. The rear clutch, or direct, takes 4 or 5. You have a program to machine 4 clutch pistons into 5 clutch ones.Don
Agree totally , Don Verity can make it better than new. I have 5-6 of his transmissions, zero problems . He must have done 60 +Many 300's received Aamco TF from a Plymouth or something like that in first 5-10 years. They had them on shelf then , they all "fit"Jarrod is so right , if either F or G is a 300 you get right governor and extra front clutch . Rebuild for sure . Don can sometimes make parts to solve thatI had 2-3 rebuilt by others , nothing but problemsHe has one for me out of C , right now ," rebuilt" but missing parts, mix if several transmissions where parts DO NOT interchange. Governor was in backwards They changed tolerances sizes etc over the years such that F, G were the best, but always keep a given trans together , never throw parts in a box . I made that mistake

Is yours an F spec trans? I would highly recommend having that rebuilt vs putting in a trans from another car, could be a poly, maybe big block, but clutches/drums and other internal parts are different.
Plus finding a rebuilt f spec trans is gonna be tricky either way.

Hello all, I am in need of a torqueflight liquid cooled tranny for my 1960 F. Mine is shot. I can have it rebuilt but would prefer to just purchase a rebuilt one. I will be at Hershey October 6-9 if anyone can bring one to Hershey it would be much appreciated. I am also parting out a 1961 300G and can bring parts to Hershey - front clip and tranny are gone. Thanks.
