How come we can have 100 responses about welding the roof from a 53
Hudson onto a 64 Max Wedge car, but nothing about the location of the
rear end numbers on an 8-3/4 rear?  :-)

What if I say I want to put the rear (if I can check the numbers into a
62 Chrysler 300 with a M1 turret mounted over the passenger compartment?

If I recall correctly, older 8-3/4 rear ends have the ratio stamped on
them instead of using a tag.
Where is the number stamped?  Also, doesn't the number have a prefix for
a suregrip?

I question the accuracy of a couple of dimensions on the chart. The "C" 
dimension for all 8 3/4 "B" bodies is listed at 12.35".  That might be 
correct for one of the 2 diff cases used, but not for both.  The 742 was

longer than the 489 I put in to replace it.

The chart lists '62 - '70 "B" bodies with 55" flange to flange.  I 
needed more clearance between the tire and the fender, so I was told to 
install a '65 - '70 rear end without the tapered axles, because they are

1" narrower.  I had both rearends sitting side by side on jack stands 
with the brake drums installed, and the '70 measured 1" narrower, 
outside of drum to outside of drum, just as I had been told.   I've 
already sold the '64 rearend, or I'd go out and measure them again to 
get the exact dimensions...Brian
